Contest is open to teams of undergraduate students from all institute of higher learning in Malaysia. International students registered as undergraduate students in any institute of higher learning in Malaysia are also eligible to enter the contest.
Each team must comprise of exactly 3 undergraduate members from the same institution.
Each team must elect an advisor from among the academic staff of the institution.
An advisor can only supervise at most 3 teams.
Each student can participate in only one team.
There is no limit to the number of participating teams from an institute. A fee of RM150 is required for each team. (See B. Registration).
Teams must be registered by 5th March 2012. No late registration will be accepted. (See B. Registration)
Any change of team members, advisors or their information must be made before 29th March 2012.
2. Send a scanned copy of proof of payment by e-mail to: nmmc2012@fskm.uitm.edu.my .
3. Register online at our website upon receiving confirmation of payment and access code from us.
(Click on the REGISTRATION button and follow all instructions and fill in all information required.)
Once online registration is successful, team will receive a confirmation of registration and a username for the contest through the e-mail.
Advisors can change information on team members and their particulars after registering.Please log on to ADVISOR LOGIN at the side bar using the USERNAME given and creating your own PASSWORD. This must be done before 29th March 2012.
The advisor is expected to register for his/her team. The advisor’s contact e-mail in the online registration should be used in the sending of e-mailed solution and in any other correspondence between the team and NMMC2012 from then on.
Please take note that it will take time (approximately 1 week) to process the fee payment before confirmation of payment and access code are given. Thus teams are recommended to register early.
Contest begins at 9.00 a.m (West Malaysia Time) Thursday 5th April 2012.
Contest questions will be uploaded to the contest website for public viewing at precisely 9.00 a.m (West Malaysia Time) Thursday 5th April 2012.
Teams are to choose only ONE question to answer.
Contest’s duration is 5 days, ending precisely at 9.00 a.m (West Malaysia Time) Tuesday 10th April 2012.
Anytime during the contest but before it ends, advisors must log in through ADVISOR LOGIN to specify the question chosen and then print the Team Confirmation Form and Summary Sheet.
Each team must send a softcopy of their contest solutions by email to nmmc2012@fskm.uitm.edu.my before contest ends at 9.00 a.m (West Malaysia Time) Tuesday 10th April 2012. (SeeE. Teams Contest Written Solutions)
Please write NMMC and your team’s username as subject of your e-mail when sending the softcopy contest solutions to us. For example if your team’s username is G1234 then the subject of your e-mail should be: NMMC G1234
Please include the abbreviations NMMC and your username in the name of any file attachments. For example: NMMC_G1234_solutions or NMMC_G1234_data.
After the contest ends, teams must send their Solution Package by post to reach us before 13rd April 2012.
The Solution Package must consists of,
the filled and signed Confirmation Form
the filled Summary Sheet
3 hardcopies of the contest solution and
a CD containing a softcopy of teams’ contest solutions.

Teams are advised to consider sending the Solution Package by courier to ensure safe and timely arrival.
The contest’s solution in the Solution Package must be the exact copy of the e-mailed solution. No changes, alterations, modifications or additions to the e-mailed solution are tolerated. Teams are automatically disqualified if there are discrepancies between the two versions.
NMMC 2012 must have both the e-mailed solution and the Solution Package by the deadlines specified above. Failure to send teams’ solutions by the times mentioned will result in the disqualification of the team.
Confirmation of acceptance of the e-mailed solution and the solution package will be sent to team’s contact e-mail address specified in registration.
Prizes, awards and/or certificates will be given to winners and successful teams. (See G. Prizes and Awards)
Solutions to question chosen can either be in Bahasa Malaysia or English.
Solutions must be typed and must not exceed 20 pages.
Teams’ solution must either be a Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF file.
Please use Times Roman with font size 11 and 1.5 spacing for your document.
The team’s username must be displayed at the top left and the page number at the top right of every page of the solution. For example:
List of references must be at the end of the solution.
The judging of the competition will be based on the submitted solution.
The solution will be judged based on the following criteria,
Comprehensiveness of the abstract/summary that includes problem description, outline of the model, the advantages of the approach and the conclusion.
Clear methodology used with justifications in solving the problem.
Parameters used are well explained and justified.
Assumptions with rationale are clearly stated.
Model testing and sensitivity-error analysis (where necessary) together with model comparison (if applicable).
Strength and weaknesses of the method/approach used.
Proper source of references.
Teams may use reliable secondary data from books, articles, magazines, newspapers, websites or any other form of information. However credit MUST be given to the sources used.
Solutions must be in the form of written text with figures, charts, tables, pictures or any other printed objects where necessary.
Teams must not write their names or their advisors’ anywhere in the summary and written solutions. Any indication that could identify the team members, advisors or their institute must be avoided.
Teams should not get or receive help in any form, either directly or indirectly from anybody outside of the team.
Teams’ performances will be classified into 4 categories – Winners (first, second and third), Honorable Mention, Successful and Unsuccessful. There will be no marks given.
Results can be viewed on the contest website, approximately 2 months after contest ends.
Prizes for the top three Winners will be RM2000, RM1500 and RM1000 respectively. Payments will be made to the advisors by bank transfers.
The top three teams’ solutions will be considered for publishing in Discovering Mathematics, published under PERSAMA (Persatuan Sains Matematik Malaysia).
Contestants receiving Honorable Mention will receive a token of our appreciation.
All Winners, Honorable Mention and Successful teams will be given a certificate of participation by post.
H. Reminder
The contest organizer reserves the right to disclude any teams that it finds to have violated the rules and spirit of the contest.
